Aftercare is important in the healing of your piercing

First off, Thank you for trusting Rose Body Piercing with your new piercing. I work really hard to provide the best jewelry in the industry and utilize the safest and up to date piercing techniques.

Healing a new piercing is your responsibility, and is just as important as all the hard work I do. This is a Teamwork situation. I want this to heal and look amazing as much as you do.

Following the aftercare recommendations is the way to insure your piercing heals without complications. Often times new piercings will experience minor swelling, redness, and fluid discharge. This is all normal in healing your piercing and should be expected for the first few weeks. Listen to your body, stay hydrated and well rested, this can all help with minimizing the swelling and redness around your new piercing. It is important to keep your piercing clean and dry at all times. Never handle your piercing with dirty hands, so no touching, twisting and turning, or removing your jewelry. No sleeping on your fresh piercing, this pressure is the most detrimental to healing. Avoid contact with creams, chemicals, ointments, or other potential irritants. Try not to use anything homemade on your new piercing. Just use fresh clean water and sterile saline wound wash. Any fresh piercing needs a longer post or larger diameter ring to accommodate the swelling stages. Downsizing your jewelry is another important step in the healing process of your piercing, this is usually recommended 4-6 weeks after your initial piercing, your piercer will use their best discretion when its appropriate to downsize.

Clean with Sterile Saline

Often times spraying the front and back of your piercing with sterile saline is best practice, and will do well with flushing any debris or other irritants from your piercing. Some clients have great success with gauze saturated in saline to gently clean around their piercing. Either method can ensure you are properly cleaning around your piercing and jewelry, just be careful to not hit or bump your piercing, or leave any fibers wrapped around your jewelry. It’s best to clean your piercing with the sterile saline wound wash this way. We recommend cleaning your piercing at least 3 times a day. Aftercare should be followed for the duration of your healing time. Healing can vary on the type of piercing you get, area of the body, as well as type of jewelry chosen. Most piercings can take up to 3-6 months to fully heal, sometimes 9-12 months. Please be patient with yourself and your piercing.

Flush with clean water

Make sure you use lots of warm water in the shower to flush your piercing free of any sorts of debris, soaps, hair care and face care products, it’s best to do this at the end of your shower. It’s ok if these products make their way onto your piercing during the shower, do what you normally do to keep yourself clean. Just let your piercing sit under the stream of water from your shower for a few seconds.

Dry Your Piercing

It is important your piercing is dry at all times. Excessive moisture can lead to a build up of dried crust and other fluids between your piercing and jewelry. So after anytime you clean your piercing, you should also be drying it. Non Woven Gauze is great for this or a hair dryer on a low or no heat setting can work well for this. However works best for you is what I recommend to gently remove any moisture from your skin around the piercing.
